Listing your site with Google, Bing and Yahoo are important. If your business sells locally, you'll also want to list locally.

In addition to directly attracting visitors, these high quality links to your site are add legitimacy and are noticed and rewarded by Google with higher search rankings.
Participating in local events and donating to fundraisers is also a great way to draw attention to your business locally. Always be sure to ask for a link back to your website.
